Light and colour for your skin tone

The light, exposure, outfit colours and backgrounds that make your skin tone glow on camera.

Who it's forEvery model, and especially models who have been lit badly on shoots before.

What you'll be able to do

  • See how light direction and softness change how skin reads on camera
  • Choose outfit and background colours that work with your colouring
  • Know what to ask a photographer about exposure and white balance
  • Spot when a shot is lit wrongly for you, and how to fix it

How it will work

A technique guide about light and colour only. It never ranks, rates or judges skin tone.

Why it matters

Many models of colour report being lit badly. Knowing what good light looks like for you means you can ask for it.

Honest limits

  • General technique; every camera, light and setting is different
  • Never about changing how you look

Before it goes live

  • Examples across the full range of skin tones, made with our house cast
  • Lighting advice checked against published photography technique
