Types of modelling, explained

Editorial, commercial, beauty, runway, fitness, parts: what each one actually involves.

Who it's forAnyone who hears words like editorial or commercial and wants to know what the work involves.

What you'll be able to do

  • Explains each main area of modelling work side by side
  • Describes what a typical shoot or job involves
  • Shows which poses and lessons on StudioMODL relate to each
  • Links to official agency pages so you can read their own requirements

Step by step

  1. Pick an area you are curious about
  2. Read what the work involves and what the pictures are for
  3. Open the related poses and lessons to practise
  4. Check real agencies' own pages for their current requirements

How it will work

A reference guide with one short section per area of work, linking to related StudioMODL poses and lessons and to agencies’ own pages.

Areas the guide covers

  • Editorial: magazine stories built around an idea or a mood
  • Commercial: advertising for products and services, often natural and approachable
  • Beauty: close-up work for skincare, make-up and hair
  • Runway: walking in shows and presentations
  • Fitness and sport: activewear and movement
  • Parts: hands, feet and other close-up detail work
  • E-commerce: clean product pictures for online shops

Why it matters

Beginners often hear these words without knowing what the work is. Clear definitions help people choose what to practise and spot unrealistic promises.

Honest limits

  • No height, size or appearance requirements are stated here: those vary by agency and change, so we link to agencies' own pages instead
  • Never a judgement of who can or cannot model

Before it goes live

  • Definitions checked against current agency and industry sources
  • Wording reviewed so it never implies who is suited to which work

This is an idea we're developing, not a live feature yet. Nothing here has been tested with users or reviewed by industry professionals.
