Know what you're signing before the shoot

A model release gives someone permission to use pictures of you. Learn who owns the photos, walk through a sample release clause by clause, then paste your own release to see the wording worth questioning.

Private by design. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent, stored or saved. The checker is a fixed list of rules you can read on this page, not AI.

1 · The basics

The photographer owns the photos. The release decides what they can do with you in them.

2 · Walkthrough

A sample release, clause by clause

This release is invented for practice. The studio and model do not exist. Open each clause to see what it means, what to check, and what to ask to change.

    What to ask for instead

Polite, specific requests you can copy into an email before the shoot. Delete the ones you don't need.

      Honest limits

      • This is general information, not legal advice, and it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
      • The legal notes are about UK law. Image rights, privacy and contract rules differ between countries and US states.
      • The checker looks for wording, not meaning. It can miss risky clauses written differently and flag harmless ones. Always read the whole release.
      • This page is for adults (18 and over). Releases for under-18s work differently and need a parent or guardian.
      • If you are signed to an agency, your agency may negotiate or sign releases for you. Check what your contract says.
      • Nothing you paste is saved. Refreshing the page clears it.
